Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will be showing a number of concept cars, a proprietary next-generation electric vehicle (MIEV) and other technologies, rally machines, welfare cars and current production models at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show. Held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture just outside Tokyo, the 39th Tokyo Motor Show is open to the public from October 22 through November 6, with press and media days October 19 and 20.

Mitsubishi Motors will be exhibiting a total of 17 cars (14 during press days) on its stand. Special show models include: the MITSUBISHI Concept-X, a concept car with styling that raises the bar on performance car looks, boasts Mitsubishi's 4WD-based Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC1) vehicle dynamics control system, and is the very embodiment of "driving pleasure"; the MITSUBISHI Concept-D:5 (world premiere), a go-anywhere, high-performance concept car that embodies the company's "utmost safety" ideal; and, the innovative new-age i minicar. Current production models on display will include the brand new Outlander SUV to be launched on October 17, which achieves an exquisite marriage between sporty lines unprecedented on an SUV and outstanding versatility and utility.

MITSUBISHI Concept-X (show car)

With an exterior that carries over the full flavor of Lancer Evolution's spartan road machine image and a high quality interior with a functional layout that encourages the driver to concentrate solely on operating his machine, MITSUBISHI Concept-X points to way a new-age Evolution design that is as handsome and purposeful as it is functional.

In the mechanical components department, MITSUBISHI Concept-X mates a turbocharged aluminum cylinder block MIVEC engine to a high-performance 6-speed auto-manual transmission. Extensive use is made of aluminum in the roof, engine hood and other body panels. Chassis performance has been substantially improved with the introduction of Mitsubishi's latest 4WD-based Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics control system. The incarnation of driving pleasure, this highly advanced technical specification makes MITSUBISHI Concept-X a showcase on wheels for Mitsubishi Motors' quintessential road performance technology.

Design
The team has crafted a form with lines that are purposeful and handsome; a form that symbolizes the New Mitsubishi Motors Design while retaining the spartan performance image that defines the Lancer Evolution series.

Distinguished by its eye-catching oversized grille, the front visage borrows design cues from a jet fighter to hint broadly at the huge quantities of air it draws in and at the car's road-hugging stability. The brand-identifying 3-diamond logo on the leading edge of the engine hood is another distinguishing element of the new-age Evolution design.

The simple and functional layout of the cockpit is put together in a design that encourages the driver to concentrate fully on operating his machine. The design team has spared no effort in developing coloring and lighting that engender a keener competition look to the interior. The black keynote interior color uses silver counterpoints to impart the material look of aluminum and create a more dynamic and athletic looking interior space.

Powertrain

MITSUBISHI Concept-X is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder DOHC MIVEC intercooler-turbocharged engine that delivers instant response at all engine speeds with flat torque that keeps pulling up to the red line. MITSUBISHI Concept-X uses a clutchless 6-speed auto-manual transmission that realizes slicker shifting and higher transmission efficiency than a regular manual gearbox. Paddle shifters mounted on the steering column allow the driver to concentrate on his steering better and enable drivers of all abilities to experience the satisfying pleasure of sport driving.

Body and chassis
The ring-structure frame design realizes a significant increase in body stiffness, while the use of aluminum in the engine hood, trunk lid, fenders, roof and front and rear door panels reduces weight. Reducing weight in the roof and upper parts of the body lowers the center of gravity, while weight reduction in the doors, engine hood, trunk and other peripheral elements reduces the moment of inertia for better steerability. Weight reduction, lowering the center of gravity and reducing the moment of inertia all contribute to better motive performance and better handling.
The suspension features a MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear. Working in concert with Mitsubishi Motors' "Roll Control Suspension" technology, this design delivers very high levels of ride and road holding.

On-board Multi-Media System
The On-Board Multi-Media System complements the interior design in the way it encourages a dialogue between driver and machine. The high-definition LCD monitor provides a real-time display of vehicle and S-AWC operating status while also displaying on-board navigation system maps and DVD audio controls. Rear seat passengers have their own LCD displays at the back of the front seats that allow them to share with the driver driving-related information and to share fun-to-drive experience.

Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC)
MITSUBISHI Concept-X showcases Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics control technology. A further step up the evolutionary ladder of Mitsubishi Motors four-wheel drive traction and handling technology well proven in the Lancer Evolution and other series, S-AWC realizes cutting-edge levels of vehicle dynamics control. Based on Mitsubishi's full-time 4WD system, as used in Lancer Evolution, that is built around ACD3 and Super AYC4 component technologies, S-AWC adds Active Brake Control, Active Steering System and Roll Control Suspension technologies to realize a fully integrated system.

In rest, totul e realizabil, in cazul lui EVO. Lancer-ul simplu va fi mai cuminte...

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X

After nine generations, the Mitsubishi Lancer has proved the theory of evolution! Ever since the first Evo was launched in 1992, the Japanese firm's performance flagship has become the devastatingly fast saloon we know and love - but a quantum leap is just around the corner.
We've already seen the Concept-X, which shows how the next-generation rocket will look, but now Auto Express can go one better. Thanks to a world exclusive test drive in a development mule, we can tell you how the Evo X will perform - because we've sampled technology that won't arrive in showrooms for at least 18 months.

Significant improvements have been made to the existing Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, and a back-to-back comparison with the current Evo IX proved the new features transform the saloon's handling. Active Brake Control (ABC) and revised Active Yaw Control (AYC) ensure power delivery precisely tailored to road conditions.
Through the snow-covered slalom course laid on for our test, these innovations made the prototype even quicker than the current car. A more composed rear end happily follows the line traced by the front wheels, while the inputs required are reduced.
Better still, the steering remains as natural and progressive as on the Evo IX, and enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the hi-tech systems cannot totally restrict slides. The new braking set-up only interrupts when you've exhausted the limit of the S-AWC's ability to maintain traction, so when you've finished having fun, bringing the Lancer back into line is easier than before.
Further adjustments before the car arrives in UK showrooms will result in even sharper turn-in and more precise steering, guaranteed to make the X the best Evo yet! When it does go on sale, expect the Lancer to offer the option of a six-speed automated manual transmission with race-style paddleshifters.
Inside, the new cabin will be a huge improvement over the current model's. Higher-quality materials will feature, and there will be more equipment, including an on-board multimedia system. Not only will this display details about the in-car entertainment and sat-nav, its screen will also show real-time information on the status of the S-AWC system.
Buyers will have to wait until the end of 2007 for the Evo X. It's set to carry on where the old car left off, with handling and performance to shame models twice the price. We can't wait.

The technology that helps X-rated Lancer get a grip

The radical Concept-X got rave reviews when it was unveiled at last year's Tokyo Motor Show - and Mitsubishi aims to back up the looks with a 4WD system which is second to none.

Our test mule may resemble an old Evo VIII, but don't be fooled; underneath, it's pure Evo X. With the revised Active Yaw Control (AYC) and braking set-up, it's a brilliant driver's machine.

AYC features extra capacity and improved responses. Together with a newly developed Active Centre Differential (ACD), it channels torque distribution between the rear wheels to the side which needs it most.

Meanwhile, the new Active Brake Control(ABC) system can supply a braking force to each wheel to stop slides and sideways movement.

Our spies were fruitful again on their hunt as they picked off what appears to be a prototype of the upcoming Mitsubishi Lancer. Details are slim right now, but we know that the car will debut in the 2008 model year, and is based off the GS Platform also used on the current Dodge Caliber.

Rumours are that the Evo X variant of the new Lancer will feature more than 300 horsepower, and will be put on a diet resulting in a curb weight significantly less than that of the current Evo.

Expected for 2007 model year

Mitsubishi’s auto show car, the Concept-X, showed a bold new design for the forthcoming Evolution X with a prominent front prow that slopes down and to the rear. Now these latest spy shots are showing a high performance Mitsubishi Lancer sports sedan during brake testing in the Austrian mountains.

Although this test car is not featuring the Evo-typical rear wing, it can be taken for granted that it is a top of the line high performance version, similar to BMW’s M3. Quite visible on the close up shot: the car is equipped with the Italian-made brake system by Brembo, and it has two exhaust pipes.

The next generation Lancer is completely new, and features a very sloping windshield, a long roofline, and a very short rear deck. The bold new Lancer is expected to be introduced for the 2007 model year.

The photos are showing, besides the prototype shots, two additional computer generated images as an artist’s impression of how the new sporty Lancer sedan could look like upon its release.

Mie mi-a placut modelul respectiv.
Sa vedem insa cum va arata realitatea.
